Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?+
That smell is hydrogen sulfide gas, common in Florida wells, usually from sulfur or sulfur-reducing bacteria in the aquifer or water heater. It is a nuisance, not something you have to live with. Aqua-Wise offers dedicated rotten-egg-smell treatment, and a water test confirms the right approach for your well.
What causes the orange or brown staining on my fixtures and laundry?+
That is iron, and sometimes manganese, dissolved in your well water. As it meets air it oxidizes and stains sinks, tubs, and laundry. Our Iron Breaker and oxidation systems remove it before it reaches your taps.
How do you remove iron and sulfur from well water?+
We oxidize the iron and sulfur, then filter them out with a self-cleaning (backwashing) media bed. Depending on your water, that can mean air injection, an ozone or chlorine system, hydrogen peroxide, catalytic carbon, or a UV step for bacteria. We size the system from your water test rather than guessing.
Will a water softener alone fix the iron and sulfur smell?+
Usually not. A softener is built for hardness and handles only small amounts of iron. Sulfur smell and higher iron levels need a dedicated oxidation and filtration stage, which we often pair with a softener.
Is the rotten-egg smell in well water dangerous?+
At typical household levels it is mainly a nuisance: bad smell and taste, and it can corrode plumbing. It can also point to bacteria in the well, which is why we test before recommending anything. Either way, treatment removes the smell.
Do I need to test my well water before buying a system?+
Yes. Well water varies house to house, so the test (iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, hardness, pH, and bacteria) is what sizes the system correctly. Aqua-Wise offers a free water test across the Miami area.
How much maintenance does a well water system need?+
Most systems backwash on their own, so day to day there is little for you to do. The filter media is replaced periodically based on your water, and Aqua-Wise offers service, inspections, rebedding, and resin flushing to keep it running.
Will treatment fix my low water pressure, or only the smell and stains?+
Treatment targets water quality (smell, iron, hardness), not water pressure itself. Iron buildup can restrict older plumbing over time, and clean water helps prevent further buildup, but a pressure issue at the well or pump is a separate fix we can point you toward.
Can one system handle both iron and the sulfur smell?+
Yes. Combination systems can address iron, sulfur smell, and hardness together. The right configuration depends on the levels in your test results.
How much does a well water treatment system cost?+
It depends on your water chemistry and home size, so there is no one-size price. After your free water test we give you an exact quote, and financing is available. Start with the test, then you get a real number.
